Devolved Budget

The Rother Valley South Area Assembly Devolved Budget paid for the following projects:

Grot Spot of the Month

This project funded a team (one caged vehicle and two operatives) to work in RVS one day per month to clean up ‘Grot Spots’ these would be areas of land which are not routinely cleansed, for example because they are not on the adopted highway or areas which suffer repeatedly from littering or dumping. Each month as part of the PACT meeting a site would be chosen by the public for cleansing that month. Nominations for the site would be invited from Officers councillors and the public via the Area Assembly Web page and other contact routes (e.g parish council meetings walkabouts etc.)

A vote would then be held each month to choose the site(s) to be cleansed that month.

 Junior Wardens Scheme

The Junior Wardens Scheme was set up to bring awareness to young people about environmental issues in their area. This project gave the young people the opportunity to walk in a wardens shoes.

 JADE Project

This project allowed JADE (Just Another Dance Event) which is based in Kiveton Park to provide an informal drop in provision and focused music technology and DJ training for young people.

 Detached Youth Work

Detached Youth Work has become a very valuable project in the Rother Valley South area as there is a need for young people to be engaged and sign posted away from hanging around on the streets.

 Community Chest

The Community Chest Grant was a great way for smaller projects to apply for a maximum of £500.00. This money was vital for the running costs of smaller groups and it made a real difference.

 Intergenerational Gym

The Intergenerational Gym was fitted to the Dinnington Resource Centre grounds as a way to encourage people of all ages to get fit. It has equipment that young people and older people can all use together. It has been such a success with all ages that several requests have been made to expand it to include more baby/childrens equipment.

 Dinnington Primary Wildlife Garden

The Dinnington Community Primary School developed a section of the school ground into a wildlife garden for the children, which is a friendly environment that encourages native species to thrive. It also provides an outdoor learning environment both for children and the wider community.

The area will help children blossom into confident, explorative individuals that are able to experience nature hands on and hopefully will develop an appreciation and respect for their surroundings and the environment.

 Dinnington Town Junior Football Club

The Devolved Budget helped towards running costs and equipmen. This has helped the club a lot as they have now got new nets and footballs for the children.

 Dinnington Junior Cricket Club

The Devolved Budget helped towards running costs and equipment. This has helped the club a lot as the children now have new equipment for the team.

 Mowcams and Domehawk CCTV Cameras

The Rother Valley Sout Area Assembly placed a bid to buy 2 upgraded  Mowcam CCTV Cameras and a bid to cover the running costs for the 2 original Domehawk cameras.  These cameras have helped to lower Anti Social Behaviour to the area that the cameras are placed so expanding this project was a big priority to the Area Assemmbly team.

Cutting Machinery

The Dinnington Resource Centre placed a bid to buy a large sit on lawn mower to reduce gardening costs. This has helped to keep the centre's football field and surrounding grounds neat and tidy

Test Purchasing

This project aimed to reduce young people’s access to alcohol, the project aimed to address the following priorities:

Anti social behaviour

Activities for young people

Criminal damage

In addition the project supported Rotherham’s Tobacco Control Strategy and Alcohol Strategy both of which seek to reduce young people’s access to harmful substances to improve public health.

This project was a success as it did highlight at least one shop in the Dinnington area who were selling to underage drinkers.

 Safe and Secure

This project was run by Harthill Neighbourhood Watch and South Yorkshire Police. With the money they purchased Smartwater kits and Carbon Monoxide detector kits, which were installed to residents who felt they needed them.  This has helped reduce a spout of sneak in break ins that the area had suffered.

Brampton Dynamo's Under 10 Football Club

The Devolved Budget contributed to buying extra equipment for the football team plus their football kit.

 NHS Drugs Project

This project paid for a Drug Box which has examples of Drugs and the equipment used to take the drugs. This box can be used by any RMBC partner for the Rother Valley South area to show young people what the different drugs look like and to explain the risks of taking each drug.

 Bin it to Win it

The Bin it to Win it project was set up as residents highlighted to us that they were unhappy with the ammount of rubbish that was left in the streets. The Bin it to Win it scheme is a way for us to reward people who are seen putting rubbish in the bin by a RMBC partner. The tickets are then taken to the Area Assembly meeting were 4 tickets are drawn out of a hat. The lucky winners will win an I-Pod if they are under 16 or a £100 Argos gift voucher if over 16.
