Area Chair - Councillor Frank Hodgkiss

Hello, I am Councillor Frank Hodgkiss, Chair of the Wentworth North Area Assembly. I am pleased to welcome you to the Wentworth North website.

As a councillor who believes in supporting and working within the community, I am pleased to be able to present our website to you.

The last year have been both busy and productive. The launch of the 'new way of working' saw the adoption of a completely new approach, with assemblies moving away from being simple consultation and information sharing arena's towards vehicles for area based co-ordination; leading to the delivery of service improvements and regeneration activity. This has led to the development of new structures involving partners and stakeholders.

The Area Assembly has published an 'Area Plan' that contains the results of work; along with the milestones and outcomes that Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and its partners within the community (Primary Care Trust, Police, Fire Service, Passenger Transport Executive) and elsewhere have agreed to deliver to begin to address community need and aspiration. Hard copies of the current  Area Plan can be obtained at the Area Assembly office.

Key issues for the community have been around crime and community safety, enhancement of the street scene environment and the regeneration of estates and communities through the delivery of the decent homes programme, through the actions of 'Transform South Yorkshire' and housing market renewal. The transformation of the Wath and Manvers area, with the development of new homes and businesses and the resulting employment opportunities has been welcomed. The Area Assembly will continue to promote and support the growth of community strength and support activity which addresses key developments.

The next twelve months will see the development of extended schools activity, the establishment of locality teams for children, young people and their families and further actions towards enhanced communities and employment and training opportunities. This will be an exciting time to live or work in Wentworth North.
