Yet another pair of young people recently recruited by PC White to help the wardens in the Wentworth North Area. Curtis Holbrook and Reece Houlston of Wath Comp went battled poor weather condition on the 8th June 2010. They dug over the flower beds at Swinton Precinct with Wardens Will and Alison. This preparation helped for the new planting the day after by other young people. Yet another example of teenagers in our area wanting to make our local community a pleasant place to live and work. Both young people were awarded a certificate for their voluntary work.

Road Safety Operation
On Thursday 10th June 2010, Wentworth North SNT conducted an Operation to reduce speeding vehicles around Swinton Fitzwilliam primary School and Swinton Community School. The Operation involved Officers from Road Policing Group, Wentworth North SNT,staff and pupils from the two schools and the Councils Road Safety Department. The aim of the day was to educate drivers on the dangers of speeding and the consequences rather than enforcement. The difference with this Operation is that the young people of the two schools were the ones speaking to the drivers about their speed. The young people had prepared letters and posters that they gave to the drivers and warned them about their speed. They had the chance to tell drivers about how they felt about their actions. During the event 2 arrests were made, one for being twice over the prescribed limited of alcohol in line with Rotherham Police's Drink Drive Campaign and the other for disqualified driving.. In total 28 vehicles were stopped by Police Officers and the drivers spoken to by the pupils. Drivers who drove within the speed limit were also spoken to and thanked by the pupils for their responsible behaviour.

Bike Registration
Wath SNT sourced internal funding to provide the young People of Swinton Community School with a bike security marking opportunity. The old bike stamping has been superseded with bike marking using a chemical agent. The project headed by PC White and PCSO Entwistle was run for the first time on Tuesday 2nd March. Students and staff were offered the opportunity to have their bikes marked and registered completely free of charge. Once registered, a log book is sent out to the owner of the bike, very similar to the log book of a vehicle. This is a visible deterrent to thieves and also dramatically increases the chances of the bike being returned back to the owner if recovered by the police. For more detail of the bike marking product visit www.bikeregister.com . Plans are being made to offer this to other local schools.
