The Wentworth Valley Area Assembly Neighbourhood Action Groups (NAG) has two priority areas. Wickersley and Model Village, Maltby. In both these areas Impact Surveys were conducted by partners of the Safer Neighbourhood Team to see what the priorities were for residents living in these two areas.

Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) priority area - Wickersley Area, (includes the Tanyard shops and the streets at the back of tanyard)  including Sorby Way and the streets that lead off this road.

Impact Survey - July 2009 - The Area Assembly as part of the Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) conducted a survey and surgery in your area in July 2009. This showed us where we needed to target some of our time and resources. A partnership action plan was drawn up and completed to address issues raised. The action plan contained many actions and included action weeks, increasing patrols at key times to target areas you raised and partnership working to include additional detached youth work in the area – involving a wide range of educational methods and introducing young people to activities available in their area.

October 2009 - Leaflets were provided to all households in the area advising them of the results of the impact survey and feedback on what the NAG/SNT partnership were going to do. ‘You said, so we will’. This included an SNT postcard including all the relevant telephone numbers with a picture of police AND partners together. This activity was undertaken by writing to all households to inform them that we would be going door to door and at the same time having a two half day/evening open surgery for residents to talk to the Area Assembly team about any local issues. Information and advice was provided face to face where possible or posted through letter boxes where not.

District Commanders Commendation Award to the Wentworth Valley Neighbourhood Action Group for:-

‘In July 2009 the Wickersley area was identified through public consultation as a neighbourhood action group priority. Specific issues and areas of concern were identified as part of an Impact Survey. The results of this survey were used to formulate an action plan with the aims of addressing these primary concerns and issues. High on the list was anti-social behaviour involving young people. The Neighbourhood Action Group met each month to plan and direct initiatives and activity in the area.

Since the original survey you have worked extremely hard as partners to provide a greater visible presence, targeted detached youth work, better youth provision and to reassure the community. You have worked with the local Neighbourhood Watch and supported the formation of the Wickersley Parish Plan. You have provided a regular presence for businesses on the Tanyard and have provided monthly police surgeries in community buildings and ensured that all local residents and business owners have received information regarding your work.

This has been a while team approach and I would like to formally recognise your hard work and contributions in making Wickersley a safer and more enjoyable place to live. Very Well Done.’ signed Richard Tweed T/Chief Superintendent.
