The Walk, East Dene
07/08/2008
The Walk is a small triangular park surrounded by houses in the East Dene area.  It was brought to the attention of the Area Assembly by a member of the community.

The area was becoming misused and subject to criminal damage, graffiti and litter.  The Safer Neighbourhood Team along with local Councillors were constantly attending the area to deal with complaints from residents.

It was agreed that an effective measure would be to install a new 'state of the art' CCTV system.  Research into various systems took place and money was sourced.  A wireless system was chosen and the money was secured from the local Area Housing Panel, Housing Market Renewal and the Councillors Leadership Fund.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team were trained to use the system and the cameras were installed with immediate effect.  The Area Assembly Team along with the Chair Councillor Barry Dodson had set up a Community Group to monitor progress and to date the vandalism, anti social behaviour and litter has decreased dramatically.

Anecdotal evidence from local residents who attend the group stated that the area is much quieter and cleaner.  All partners are working together to improve the appearance of the area and to improve youth provision.
