Area Chair - Councillor Lindsay Johnston

Hello, I am Councillor Lindsay Johnston, Chair of the Rotherham North Area Assembly. I am delighted to welcome you the Rotherham North website.

One of the key messages given to us time and again by residents is that we do not feed back enough to the community on good news and forthcoming developments in the area.

As a result we have decided to put together a website that is informative and friendly, enabling you to get the most out of the assembly.

The Area Assembly has produced an Area Plan that focuses on community priorities that have been identified by residents through consultation and community planning.

For example, you told us that there are not enough activities for young people and that it is important to enable young people to vocalise their priorities and ideas. From this we have set up a 'Young Peoples Engagement Group', this will:

• Invite young people to sit on the group
• Enable the Assembly to work closely with Childrens and Young Peoples Services
• A Community Leadership course will be delivered for young people from local comprehensive schools
• The theme for one Area Assembly meeting every year will be 'Celebrating Young People'.

The next year will see us further develop our partnership approach in order to deliver services in Rotherham North. I would like to thank all the partners who have worked with us and everyone who has attended the Area Assembly meetings, particularly those who have given up time voluntarily to undertake work within your communities either individually or as part of a group.
