LIFE Project
29/2/2008

The LIFE course lets young people experience what it’s like to be a Fire Fighter.  Activities include hose and pump drills, ladder drills, breathing apparatus activities, road traffic collision simulations, consequence education, and team building exercises.

Nine young people (eight boys and one girl) from the Wentworth South Area recently completed a five day LIFE (Local Intervention Fire Education) Course.

The young people learn teamwork, motivation, attendance and punctuality, first aid, and basic fire fighting skills.

The Passing out Parade on the last day of the course gives the young people the opportunity to show family and friends the skills they have learnt.

One member of the Area Assembly Co-ordinating Group after attending the Passing Out Parade said “I was so proud to be invited to the event.  It was fantastic to see young people from our area being praised for doing something good.  I think the course should be promoted across the whole of the Borough and we should do more things like this.”

Some of the young people enjoyed the course so much they are joining the “Young Fire Fighters” which will enable them to build on the skills they have learnt and possibly become fully fledged fire fighters of the future.
