Neighbourhood Action Group
13/12/2007

Crime and safety are major concerns for communities. We have therefore worked with our Partners from South Yorkshire Police and 2010 Rotherham Ltd to introduce a Neighbourhood Action Group to establish what the main priorities are in terms of crime and fear of crime and how statutory organisations can take a multi agency problem solving approach to dealing with issues being raised by you.

This has included ensuring that all estates receive walkabouts in addition to the 2010 walkabouts, the introduction of target hardening measures to deal with persistent offenders, as well as hugely successful Impact Weeks conducted by multi-agencies working together targeting areas prioritised through the NAG meetings. The Neighbourhood action group has worked particularly well in Rotherham North, tackling areas of high crime and antisocial behaviour through effective partnership working. Our current three priority areas are (please note these priority areas are due for review and may be replaced by other areas):

  • Henley
  • Greasbrough Park
  • St John’s Green

Partnership activity has had a particular effect on Henley with statistics showing a dramatic decrease in crime and antisocial behaviour. Activities in Henley included:

  • Digging of trench and erection of bollards leading to field at Henley Rise to stop antisocial behaviour caused by motorcycles and 4x4 vehicles.
  • A six month multi agency action plan that culminated in a Family fun Day
  • Intensive patrols, cleanups, walkabouts and graffiti removal by South Yorkshire Police; Neighbourhood Wardens; Streetpride and 2010 Rotherham Ltd.
